While we take a breather in-between the 2012-2013 and the 2013-2014 network TV seasons, we are now focusing on the cable networks. One of the pilots that everyone has been anticipating is the adaptation of The Strain, which was penned by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.
Here is the synopsis of the first book in the trilogy:
A Boeing 777 arrives at JFK and is on its way across the tarmac, when it suddenly stops dead. All window shades are pulled down. All lights are out. All communication channels have gone quiet. Crews on the ground are lost for answers, but an alert goes out to the CDC. Dr. Eph Goodweather, head of their Canary project, a rapid-response team that investigates biological threats, gets the call and boards the plane. What he finds makes his blood run cold.
In a pawnshop in Spanish Harlem, a former professor and survivor of the Holocaust named Abraham Setrakian knows something is happening. And he knows the time has come, that a war is brewing . . .
So begins a battle of mammoth proportions as the vampiric virus that has infected New York begins to spill out into the streets. Eph, who is joined by Setrakian and a motley crew of fighters, must now find a way to stop the contagion and save his city–a city that includes his wife and son–before it is too late.
Filming for the pilot has not begun, but they have begin casting. Corey Stoll will portray Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, Mia Maestro has been cast as Dr. Nora Martinez, and Kevin Durand will be playing Vasily Fet,
As we stated earlier, it seems like team Bad Robot has their hands in everything and The Strain is just another example of such a project. Carlton Cuse, who worked on J.J. Abrams’ LOST, will be the executive producer of the pilot as Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan have co-written the pilot and Guillermo del Toro will direct the pilot.
Well, it seems like Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ star is on the rise, not only does this one time troubled actor have a show on NBC, but he is in talks to star in the 7th episode of the Star Wars saga which will be helmed by J.J. Abrams. Who the character is, no one knows.
Regarding J.J. Abrams, after the success of Star Trek Into Darkness it was not a surprise to hear that we will indeed have a third installment in the rebooted Star Trek franchise. We have heard Damon Lindelof toss around his thoughts on who will be the new bad guy in the new movie.
I am sorry that this season is coming to a close, but I loved that we were given a roller-coaster of a season which was filled with haw-dropping highlights. The story lines ranged from the usual supernatural crime procedural cases that were intertwined with the loss of Juliette’s memory, the love story of Rosalee and Monroe, Hank getting in on the Wesen action and Reynard’s on-going family issues, all of which left us in utter amazement at each and every episode’s end. This season also made viewers become experts to the mythos of Grimm, so much so that German is starting to make sense to all of us…
We should give the crew behind this show a round of applause for a banner season.
MTV will air Teen Wolf: Back to the Pack, an hour-long special recapping season two of the hit MTV show on Monday, May 27 at 10 p.m. The special will include interviews with the cast and there’ll be a special sneak peek at season three.
In edition to this special, there will be a season two marathon on June 3rd, starting at 10am EST and ending with the premiere of season 3.

Well, this was kind of a surprise, but not really. Benedict Cumberbatch was not listed in the poll that allows you to vote for our Monday Morning Hottie, but a number of you wrote him in and I commend you for your action and I know you all want a piece of him…
Synopsis: King’s Landing hosts a wedding, and Tyrion and Sansa spend the night together. Dany meets the Titan’s Bastard. Davos demands proof from Melisandre. Sam and Gilly meet an older gentleman.
My thoughts: This episode focused a lot on the younger characters of the show for example, Sansa finally wed Tyrion, but he vowed he would keep watch over her because he knows that there will be no consummation of this union that he was forced into by his father. Sansa will need this because Joffrey was once again being a creep and threatening to bed her. Arya was being taken to her brother, Robb, and her mother by the Hound for ransom and just in time for Robb’s wedding to the Frey. Gendry was taken to Stannis’ castle and with our hearts in our throats we expected the worst, but Melisandre only used Gendry to make a point of the power of a King’s blood. Sam and Gilly make it to a shelter and while they discuss what to name the baby a murder of crows shows up and why are they there? Well, to pinpoint where the baby is for a wandering white walker. Happily, we learn that they can be killed by stabbing the walkers in the back. I was hopping for something a bit more spectacular, but what can you do with icy zombies?
What really drew me in was Dany’s interaction with Daario Naharis of the Second Sons. He was chosen, by luck, to off Dany, but he has other plans for her… like join her and defend her to the hilt because he has the hots for her. So, he kills off his co-horts and swears to Dany that he and his men will fight for her. Did I mention that Daario was handsome in a Conan the Barbarian kind of way? This coupling, of sorts, will have repercussions with those in Dany’s retinue, especially with Jorah. Her storyline just gets more and more interesting, doesn’t it?
Well, it was a banner episode, but we will have to wait two more weeks for the next new episode… blame Liberace for that.
Next time:The Rains of Castamere is going to air on June 2 and in it Robb presents himself to Walder Frey, and Edmure meets his bride. Jon faces his harshest test yet. Bran discovers a new gift. Daario and Jorah debate how to take Yunkai. House Frey joins with House Tully.
Actor Victor of Aquitaine has been cast to play the role of a “Crazed Vampire” in the ninth episode of True Blood‘s sixth season. The episode is titled “Life Matters.”
No more is known about the role, or if it will continue past the ninth episode at this time.
As the year progresses we will update this section with new books that we think you will like.
