The Most Helpful Home Maintenance Hacks on the Internet
Let’s not beat around the bush. Here are our top tips for a happier home, long term.
Sugru is your Number 1 Home Maintenance Tool
It’s not just your cracked sideboards and tiles that can benefit from a bit of Sugru, you can use it to fix screens, car interiors, and more. It’s waterproof and sets to a silicon rubber, meaning you can use it to fix broken showerheads, taps, and even use it to make a plug that’s exactly the right size for your sink!
Sugru can do just about anything. Take it out the packet and you have a half hour to mold it into the shape you want. After 24 hours, the shape will stick around for good.
De-Humidifier Boxes
While an actual de-humidifier costs a lot of money and we can’t all afford one, small de-humidifying boxes are pretty cheap. You can usually find them in the dollar store. These little plastic tubs have a layer of water-catching beads on the bottom, beneath a layer of absorbent paper.
Placing one of these in any area of you home prone to damp, will save you having to replace walls, deal with wet rot, or treat against mold and mildew in your home. It doesn’t sound like a lot but buying one of these little boxes once a year could save you a fortune in construction fees down the line.
Masking Tape
Masking tape is the best way to make sure you are going in a straight line. Keep some in your junk drawer and it will see consistent use. You always lose your Sellotape, but never the masking tape. Placing it along the ceiling and skirting board when you are painting will help you go in a straight line. Placing it along the lines of your shower will help you caulk straight in the bathroom.
You can ball it up and use it to patch holes in the wall, use it in place of regular tape, and even use it as a frame for homemade pompoms when you are done.
Helpful home hacks are handy to have
If you take these three products, you should be equipped to handle anything that comes your way. Home maintenance is easier when you are forewarned. Don’t let tasks sneak up on you and you should be fine.
