News Bites: The CW’s TCA Chatter on Supernatural, Amazon, Beauty & the Beast and The Selection and Showtime’s Frankenstein/Vampire Hunter ShowSunday, January 13th, 2013
One of the TCA panels that we were waiting to see revolved around the CW. As we all know Supernatural fans are waiting to hear if they will continue to see the Brothers Winchester next year. Mark Pedowitz stated the following on the future of this long-running fan favorite:
“We are pleased with how Wednesday night has turned out, with Arrow being a bonafide hit and Supernatural actually gaining viewers again,” he said. “I think creatively the show is in a great place and there’s always a good shot.”
I think there is a good chance that this show will return because the WB has finalized deals with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, but I think we should all pray to St. Jude when the CW makes their decision for a 9th season pick-up.
Regarding the freshman show Beauty and the Beast, Pedowitz went on to say:
“We’re very pleased with it creatively,” he said. “It’s on par with Secret Circle in terms of total viewers. Based on the passion of fans, we think we have something.”
This can mean anything because at the 11th hour of renewal decision time the Secret Circle was cancelled.
We also heard of some pilot potentials, first up was The Selection. If you recall, the pilot for the tv adaptation of the popular YA book series by Kiera Cass was given a pass, but the network asked for a retooling of the script. Pedowitz has read the new script and thinks that the script remains in contention for a possible series pick-up.
The CW is also at starting an origin story for Wonder Woman. Amazon‘s Diana is being cast as they await a final pilot script.
Showtime is entering the sci-fi genre with a straight to series show that is described as “a psychological horror drama series with literary underpinnings, including Dr. Frankenstein and his creature and is set in 1800′s London. No title yet for this series.
