The Scope of the 2012/2013 TV Season Landscape

As the Fall/Spring TV season ends and the Summer TV Season begins, we are pondering about what’s to come in the Fall. In reality, barring the actual shift when shows will air during the week, there really aren’t that many changes in what you will be seeing.
As you are well aware of, Upfronts have and will take place for all the networks and they have given us a crystal ball into what to expect. To give you a little head’s up, these are the new shows that we think might pique your interest. Remember, these are only network shows and not cable shows.
666 Park Avenue (ABC) Sundays, 10 p.m.
The show starts with a relatively common horror movie trope — an innocent couple doesn’t know what they’re getting into — what they are getting into is an offer to manage one of the most historic apartment building in New York City. The tenants in the building begin to experience dangerous and mysteriously supernatural occurrences. Terry O’Quinn (LOST) plays the building’s owner and the young couple will be played by Rachel Taylor and Dave Annable.
Revolutions (NBC) Mondays, 10 p.m. (Maria’s favorite so far)
Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why?
Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down, the lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it?
On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman’s life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously – and unbeknownst to her – had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.
From director Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2″) and the fertile imaginations of J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke (“Supernatural”), comes a surprising “what if” action-adventure series, where an unlikely hero will lead the world out of the dark. Literally.
Upfronts for the CW will be taking place on May 17th, but there are the shows that they picked up for the fall:
Arrow (CW)
Arrow will be a modern retelling “of the legendary archer’s adventures. Stephen Arnell will be playing Oliver Green/Green Arrow.
Beauty and the Beast (CW)
The updated love story will star former CW sweetheart and “Smallville” alum Kristin Kreuk as the beauty, and “Terra Nova’s” Jay Ryan as her beast.
My question right now is, when some of the shows that were picked up end up failing for some reason or another, will we get a slew of sci-fi/dystopian shows like The Selection, come mid-season? Which makes me wonder why there were not that many sci-fi shows ordered, but beggars can’t be choosers. At least the majority of our favorites are returning and we only lost two (Eureka and The Secret Circle) in the fray.
What new shows are you looking forward to in the Fall?
