This was the week to say adios to a lot of your favorite shows, at least for the summer that is, and was it an awe inspiring, saddening and confusing week as we were left with cliff-hangers that made us scream at our TVs.

We are focusing on the CW’s slew of supernatural shows…

Arrow:  23rd Ep., Season 1 –  SacrificeWhen they discover Malcolm’s plan, Oliver and Diggle try to stop him but lose Felicity to a police arrest. Meanwhile, Thea learns that Roy is in danger and goes to The Glades, endangering herself as well, while Oliver risks what’s left of his friendship with Tommy for the sake of honesty. In the past, Oliver, Shado, and Slade try to stop Fyers from bringing down a passenger jet.

For a freshman show, we were not surprised at how much of a rollercaoster of a ride this season was, especially with its past/present storylines for Oliver. Like many other shows, it was not the protagonist’s (Oliver’s) storyline that made us keep watching. It was Felicity, Diggs, Tommy, Laurel, Quentin, etc… These characters gave the show a richness that other shows of the same ilk lack. So, it was with great sadness to see not one, but two of them pass away, but we’ll touch on that in a bit.

Malcolm had his diabolical plan set and he was not letting anyone get in his way… he is so blinded by his ire that he cannot think of the smaller picture, that of his relationship with his son Tommy. But that was not the only familial story plot to come to ahead. Nope, Moira helped Oliver by not only telling her son about when the Undertaking would take place, but she also called a press conference to announce to the world about the plan that Malcolm created… it also ensured that she would pay for her participation. This forced Thea to go to the Glades to save Roy, whose heroic streak may or may not be his downfall. As Malcolm’s plan kicks in after a foiled attempt to quell it by Oliver, Felicity, Quentin, and Diggs, Tommy goes in to save Laurel. Unfortunately, like his father (who died by Oliver’s arrow) he does not make it out.

With the loss of Malcolm and Tommy, Moira’s impending imprisonment, Roy’s questionable survival, Quentin on suspension, and the destruction of the Glades, we have to wonder how these characters and Starling City will move forward.

There was a flash back sequence, my least favorite gimmick of the series, and as the group successfully stops Fyers from taking down an airplane, we see the rise of the Oliver that we’ve come to know so well.

Overall, this season ender was an example of how shows can end a storyline neatly and satisfactorily. Unfortunately, seeing Tommy die had me crushed. I said, on a weekly basis, that seeing Tommy going through the hell of playing second fiddle to Oliver and seeing the struggle in his face and actions was a highlight.

Beauty and the Beast: 22nd Ep., Season 1 – Never Turn Back - Secrets revealed will change what Cat knows about her past. Vincent faces his downfall while Gabe goes to extreme lengths to find answers.

This episode was filled with reveals that it made us want to see Season 2 start tomorrow.

As we watched Vincent continue to stay in check with the medicine that Gabe gave him in exchange for some of his blood, things start to inevitably fall apart for Cat and Vincent.  JT finds out that Gabe wants to steal Vincent’s lymphatic system to save himself, he then destroys all of Gabe’s equipment and that forces Gabe to kidnap Cat in order to force Vincent to give in to his demands. This plan does not work out for Gabe because Muirfield shows up and kills Gabe, kidnaps Vincent and we learn the biggest secret of the season… that Cat’s father is the head of Muirfield. Yes, you heard me right.

Now, Cat does not know this, but her little sister learns that Cat is not related to their father. The only reason she finds this out is after their father is injured by a hit and run driver and Cat gives blood thinking it would assist her father in his recuperation. The nurse shows up and informs Cat’s little sister that Cat and her father are not genetically related.

Cat’s partner also learns something big after Cat hands over her father’s effects (which he was going to hand over to Cat) to be analyzed by their IT department. What she learns is that the head of Muirfield is back in town and she is goes to give a head’s up to Cat, but comes across JT, who was handcuffed by Tyler (r.i.p.).

I am actually looking forward to season 2 because Vincent is in Muirfield’s hands and Cat’s life in a tizzy, so next season will surely be action-packed.

Supernatural: 23rd Ep., Season 8 – Sacrifice – Using the tablet half in his possession, Crowley prepares to make his final move in the grand game against Heaven. Only Dean, Sam, and Kevin can stop him. Meanwhile, Castiel and Metatron join forces and try to stop Naomi’s scheme.

Who knew that this whole time, where we spent one eye on Naomi and one on Crawley that we actually had to worry about the Messenger of God. That’s right, Metatron.

This once reclusive angel has been harboring a deep-seated resentment towards everyone for what has happened to the heaven he once called home. So, he uses Sam and Dean to close the gates of hell (happily does not happen), kills Naomi, makes Castiel a human and forces the angels to fall from heaven. Yea… yea… not good at all.

This ruse of assisting Castiel allowed Metatron to fulfill God’s desire of protecting humans. Yet, there is something infinitesimally wrong with how Metatron forced the Angels to fall and become human. Yes, this allows Humans to not become pawns in the archangel’s game of power chess. But, now he is in the power seat and with great power, comes great insanity.

I think the most worrisome aspect to this season was the declining fortitude of Sam as he prepared for the Trials. Now that it is not happening, how will he be?

There is also a big question mark with Crawley. Since the trials were not completed, will Crawley become the jerk that we all love to hate or will he become something else?

Also, what will happen to Cas? Will he still be our Cas or will he be someone else?

It is painful to have so many questions and a lengthy 3 to 4 months to wait for answers.

The Vampire Diaries: 23rd Ep., Season 4 – GraduationGraduation has arrived and Mystic Falls is filled with ghosts that are planning to settle unfinished business and to fulfill their destinies. Damon is in grave danger when he meets a ghost, while Matt and Rebekah work together against a ghost that is trying to reach the cure. Everyone gathers up for Graduation when help comes from someone unexpected. At the same time Caroline gets a surprising graduation gift and Bonnie is very close at closing the veil. Elena makes a decision about the Salvatores and has a showdown with Katherine. Stefan makes a horrifying discovery about Silas.

I think the beauty of the last two episodes is that it allowed us to see some much-missed faces, like Alaric, Lexi and Jeremy. It also allowed us to get much needed closure on storylines that needed to end… stat.

But, with endings, come new issues to deal with.

So, what has ended? High School is in the rearview mirror. Everyone has graduated and all of them are looking forward to the future. Well, except for Bonnie who is off to the other side and happy about it because her friends are happy and safe… or so she thinks. Remember the spell that killed Bonnie? It worked at the end of the episode and Jeremy is back.

As a graduation gift, Klaus allows Tyler to comeback to Mystic Falls and his parting words to were quite memorable, “Tyler is your first love, but I will be your last.” Le swoon Klaus, le swoon.

Elena has finally made her choice and she has chosen…. Damon. Can you believe it? I can. But, will it work out? Not really sure and that is only because Elena has given Katherine the gift of humanity and as a human she may get to Damon. Damon will also contend with Stefan, who is actually Silas in disguise. Oh wait, where is Stefan? He is at the bottom of the falls.

Now, the sweetest moment took place with Matt and Rebekah. Rebekah saves Matt from becoming pink mist, but not after describing the two of them travelling the world. When she takes his place on the pressure bomb, she urges him to go and graduate. You would think that would be end of their tale, but it is not… she goes to see him to say goodbye, but he balks and says he will go on this trip so he can finally live his life and get the hell out of dodge, I mean Mystic Falls.

I am so happy High School is over and I am so glad that we have such a meaty Stefan storyline to hook us back into this show, because with the Originals moving on to their own series…. We, as the cast, are kind of worried if the show will succeed. Yet, with the knowledge that the Originals would be floating in and out of the Vampire Diaries and that many of the cast will be back for the 5th season, it is safe to say that we will get another phenomenal season.

Overall, the CW did a great job with their shows from beginning to end and I cannot wait to see what is to come next season, for these shows and the new ones.

TV Time: The Week That Was… Once Upon a Time was Tops! Plus Game of Thrones, Grimm, Doctor Who, Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, Supernatural, and the Vampire Diaries Needed More Caroline…

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Hi Everyone,

This is Ro, Maria’s kid, again. She is a bit under the weather right now, so I decided to pitch in and help her out with the site. I hope you like the pics of Alex, because my BFF (Embee) is in love with Alex and spent some time picking out pics that would make your ovaries explode (sorry, that is a tumblrism).

I have to make this quick because I am on the third revision of the 6th chapter for my thesis.

Where do I start? Okay. I am doing what my Mom does for the podcast and give you my idea of what blew my mind in TV and what left me wondering why I was doing this favor for my Mom.

Wait, she is taking over the laptop:

Hi! In-between coma-like spells right now. I just wanted to say that all the shows I cover were really good this week. IF I had to pick a less than stellar episode, it would have to be The Vampire Diaries  Why? Well, except for the moment where Damon snapped Matt’s neck as a ploy to force Elena to regain her feelings, I could really care less about saving her humanity. What was great was the whole Silas tormenting Caroline and seeing her desperation to save her Mom. You can tell that if she had the chance, she would high-tail it out of Mystic Falls to save her Mom and herself. If you are wondering about my thoughts about Bonnie and Katherine, this story line has gotten a bit out of hand and at time I wish the writers reeled it in a bit. Yes, I can see them setting the path where some story lines will be completed, via death, graduation or etc.. In all honesty, I’m just glad this show is moving away from a High School setting.

I would have to say the latest episodes of Arrow and Beauty and the Beast, were okay. In Arrow, we got out Walter back, but at what price? Malcolm is not one to mess around with. If you saw the pics from the upcoming episode than you catch my drift. Happily, Ollie has Diggs back in his corner. Unfortunately, with the knowledge of his Mom’s work with Malcolm… there is some definite strain on the home-front. I’m not even going to talk about Laurel, this story line needs to stop. He needs to romance his IT person. For Beauty and the Beast, the knowledge that Cat’s Mom is really dead is a great relief, because if she was alive… I think we would be treading in General Hospital territory. Gabe’s story was interesting, who is after him and why? Is it Muirfield? If it’s not them, than where are they? These little questions keep me intrigued with this show.

Out of all the CW shows, I think Supernatural has me glued to my seat. Seeing the toll that the trials were taking on Sam was quite unnerving. Especially when he was near the Messenger. I was waiting for blood to pour out of his eyes and ears. Yet, knowing that what Kevin was working on was actually a cure for Demons and that Sam was now going to be a-okay, made me sigh a huge sigh of relief. I also loved the background story of why the Angels and Demons are at each other’s throats and why humans are just pawns in a game of chess for the universe.

Grimm also gave us a really interesting back story about the war locks (keys). The keys/maps were created by the Templar’s,  all of whom were Grimms apparently, who were hiding something very important. What that is… no one has a clue. Hank was still on vacation and the case that Nick, Monroe and Rosalee worked on revolved a series of wesen that were on the verge of extinction. Yet, that was not the highlight for me. It is all about Juliette and her memories and how she is going to get Nick back.

Game of Thrones once again had me glued to the TV, but it was not because we saw Tyrion break the news to Sansa that they were betrothed, or Melisandre taking Gendry, or finding out that Jaimie and Brienne were going to be separated, or Jon and Ygritte making it over the wall… nope the episode was memorable because we watched Tywin and Oleanna negotiate the betrothels of their children. It showed just how knowledgeable they are, but it was quite saddening to see how they used their kids as pawns in a game of chess for power. Swallowing swords…

If there ever was an episode where we saw the Doctor infatuated with the ladies, it would have to be in the Crimson Horror episode of Doctor Who. He now only kisses Lady Vastra’s wife, but he endears himself to his heroine, Ada. A blind young woman that is treated like a slave by her insane mother and saves the Doctor when her mother tells her to kill him with rest of the rejects. He is also in a tizzy regarding the whereabouts of Clara, who becomes a part of a diorama. What was really interesting was when Clara’s kids find out the truth about Clara and the Doctor. What a tangled web we weave Clara…

I have to admit that my favorite show of the past week was Once Upon a Time. This was the first part of the season finale and as such, it was filled with a lot of action and it all revolved around Regina, Mary Margaret, Emma, Neal, Tamara and Greg. So, Mary Margaret uses magic to find out where Regina is being tortured and this tips of Emma and Neal, they get to the canning facility and catch Tamara red-handed. Unfortunately, she used a magic bean to get away. This little wormhole catches Neal and sucks him in to god knows where. This all happened just as Emma and Neal confessed their love for one another. Will we see Neal again? Hope so. Back to Regina, she is saved and informs her heroes that Greg and Tamara have the trigger gem that would destroy Storybrooke. Now, Tamara and Greg find out the use of this gem from the home office, but how? Who is the head of the home office?

In the Fairy tale back story line, we see where Bae ended up after he was sucked out of the enchanted forest and that was Victorian London. He is saved by Wendy Darling and gets embroiled in a plot to save Wendy’s brothers from the shadows. Any who, this is how Bae meets Hook. Now, my initial thought of the home office made me suspect that Wendy was the head honcho, what do you think?

Now that I have mentioned chess twice…. I’m going to play for a bit before I pass…

Supernatual: Recap of S08:Ep.20 – Pac-Man Fever & Promo and Synopsis of The Great Escapist

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

Synopsis: Dean is concerned about the physical impact the second trial had on Sam, so he insists that Sam stop hunting for a while. When Charlie comes across a case and finds the boys, Dean decides it’s time to teach her how to be a hunter. However, the boys suspect she is hiding something from them that could get her killed.

My thoughts: I have to say that the promos for this episode kind of pulled the wool over my eyes. At first glance, you think you are watching another quirky episode that revolves around the Brothers Winchester and Charlie (their wise-cracking, tech savvy, lesbian pal that has crossed their paths less than a handful of times, yet has given fans the most fun and memorable of episodes). Even though we did get some funny moments, this episode really gave us some insight into Charlie’s character. Here is a woman that has been on her own since she was 12. Since that tender age, she has been blaming herself for her father’s death and the current vegetated state of her mother. Whatever money she has accrued has been funneled into the care of her mother… who is in Kansas. Yep, the same state Sam and Dean are currently residing in. She comes a-knocking and decides to help the boys on a case where inhabitants are being marked for impending death by turning their innards into gelatinous goo. The only way Dean and Charlie can fight these creatures is by giving into their fear during a joint nightmare sequence. That means Dean has to deal with the repercussions of Sam’s trials and Charlie has to finally let go of her mother.

Let me tell you that Supernatural never brings a tear to my eye, but this episode did as Charlie read The Hobbit one last time to her mother.

This has to be one of my top 5 episodes for this season, not only because of Charlie’s story line, but because we saw genuine moments between Charlie and the boys and between the boys themselves. Also, I would pit Charlie and Dean against Scully and Mulder anytime.

Next time: The Great Escapist – Sam and Dean receive a video message from Kevin which leads them to a casino in Colorado, where they find a mysterious recluse that might help them fill in the gaps in Kevin’s research. At the same time, Crowley is winning at the tables. Meanwhile, Castiel tries to escape from Naomi and the other angels that are after him.

Spoiler Time: True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and Beauty and the Beast

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

Here’s the latest scoop on a few of the shows we love:

True Blood —
On Alcide:  “I think [the producers] looked at some things that went on with Alcide last season, and thought, ‘How can we top that or how can we get even racier?’ And I think they’ve succeeded… Right out of the gate, it’s really juicy,” Joe Manganiello recently revealed.

On the possibility of Eric Northman’s death:  I can neither confirm or deny the rumors, but I can offer you two pieces of evidence that suggest such a twist is in the realm of possibility. The first one comes care of Joe Manganiello, who tells TVLine, “We’re getting to the point in the season now where people are starting to die. The table reads are starting to get smaller, and I’m sure they will continue to do that.” Exhibit B, meanwhile, arrives in the form of Episode 7′s title — “The Funeral.”

The Vampire Diaries –
On the possibility of a Stelena or Delena moment at prom:
Elena and Stefan do share an incredibly heated dance, but it’s his intentions you should be asking about. As for Delena, let’s just say Damon’s doubts about Elena’s feelings for him prove to be a sore spot.

On the possibility of a Klaroline moment at prom:  Although Caroline’s dance card is pretty full in the episode, she doesn’t hit the floor with Klaus. That’s the bad news. The good news is that, prior to the big event, those crazy kids do share a nice moment — during which Klaus actually proves to be a friend! Stop the presses!

Supernatural –
Given what a winning introduction the Men of Letters received earlier this year, surely that’s not the last we’ve seen or heard of the secret organization, right? Right… ish. “We will absolutely see the positive and negative effects of being legacies,” says EP Jeremy Carver, adding that MoL “are involved in some capacity” later this season. Hmm, could this bit of casting have anything to do with that?

Beauty and the Beast –
In the CW drama’s penultimate freshman hour, “Date Night,” “Cat and Vincent get to go on a date that is not in his ‘lair’ or whatever you want to call it but out on an actual date, and it’s super-fun,” EP Jennifer Levin tells us. The season finale meanwhile is titled “Never Turn Back” — and make of that what you will.
