Arrow

S1:Ep.18 – Salvation: Roy is kidnapped by an angry resident of the Glades who calls himself “The Savior” and goes on a killing spree to punish those he believes have wronged people living in his neighborhood. Meanwhile, Malcolm tells Moira to find the person who tried to murder him.

One of Oliver’s marks is kidnapped and Oliver fears that there is someone out there that is dangerous and has no restraint. Yet Digg is more worried about the path Oliver is going down because for two weeks he has been constantly doing his “Hood” job. Yet, that discussion gets pushed aside when they see his original mark die via video feed.

“The Savior” is a disgruntled former resident of The Glades that did not get the justice his wife deserved when she was murdered.  He later kills an ADA that worked on her case.  Then he kidnaps Thea Queen’s boyfriend, Roy Harper.

Unfortunately, for the Lances, Laurel broke the news that they had not found their youngest daughter. Yet, the truth came out that Laurel’s Mom allowed her younger sister to go off with Oliver and therefore the Mom felt like she had sent the youngest Lance to her death.

Moira’s time is ticking down to zero as Malcolm finds a triad that is willing to hunt down the person who issued the hit on him, but before she goes down the tubes she betrays her co-worker and he dies for her desire to have Malcolm killed.

My one question from this episode is why did Starling City get rid of their subway system? Anywho, because of the old subway map, Ollie connects everything to the Glades.

Beauty and the Beast

S1:Ep.17 – Partners in Crime: Cat reveals secrets to Tess; Evan’s opinion of Cat changes.

Well it seems like Vincent have a new member on their team and have officially gained a new enemy and the latter is in the guise of Evan, who ultimately caught Cat and Vincent making out on her balcony and watched Vincent drop onto a truck and then leap of that vehicle and walk off into the night. In all honesty, if you were a marked man, why wouldn’t you just climb down the escalator like a normal guy?

Let me digress, the episode started where the last episode ended and Tess caught Vincent, but after seeing who the beast really was and comprehending that Cat has been lying to her for over a year. So, she did what any would do… attempt to escape and get back-up so both Vincent and Cat would be arrested. Well, that didn’t happen because JT tranquilized her. Over the course of the episode Tess learned more about Vincent and what kind of man he truly is. This also lead to Tess and Cat making amends after Vincent saved Tess when she got shot by two of Gabe’s men and then fell into the water.

We are still a little confused by what is motivating Gabe. We haven’t seen him with anyone from Muirfield, so who is he?

This show returns April 21st.

Supernatural

S8:Ep.18 – Freaks and Geeks: Sam and Dean investigate a series of vampire kills and discover that some orphans, who lost their parents to vampires, are being trained as hunters by a mysterious man. He claims he is helping the kids get revenge, but Dean is suspicious of his motives.

We saw a familiar face in this episode. Remember Krissy from last season? Well, her Dad was murdered by a vampire and she landed in a “hunter’s training school” being run by a bloke named Vincent who was a hunter that the brothers Winchester had met ages ago. This school actually houses two other teens that have had similar backgrounds, and together they hunt for the vampires that killed their parents while they go to school and try to live normal lives.

The Winchesters feel that something is off when they come across the teens during one of their kills. They realized that the vampire in front of them was begging for his life and vampires never do that. It happened again with a female and Dean knew that she was just made so he stops the kids from killing her and they go back to the school. There they find out the truth, Vincent killed their parents in order to get his hands on them and train them to become super hunters. Krissy is incensed and is about to kill him, but she really just makes him understand that they will no longer do anything with Vincent. Having the kids turn their backs on him forced Vincent to kill himself.

If you think the kids were about to up and leave and return to their respective families, well they have found a family in one another and decide to stay in the house and attempt to live normal lives. Krissy even vows to not slay unless trouble comes a knockin’.

Dean, worrying for the kids, is now pressing for the closure of the gates of hell.

In all honesty, is Sam going to be okay to do the trials?

The Vampire Diaries

S4:Ep.18: American Gothic – Elena meets Elijah when she searches for Katherine in a small Pennsylvania town. Meanwhile, Stefan reveals his surprising plan for the future; and Klaus gains a new appreciation for Silas’ powers.

During the course of this episode, there was some sort of mentality shift in the Originals storyline that left me thinking, “What happened?”

So, we start the episode with Rebekah and Elena in pursuit of Katherine and the cure. By sheer dumb luck and a desire to feed, they come across the town that she has been residing in.  We learn a couple of things; she has the cure and is using it to gain her freedom from Klaus with the assistance of Elijah. Yep, we got to see Elijah in this episode and did he look good in his crisp little suit.

There is a discussion between Damon and Stefan and the latter states the obvious and that is that over the course of 150 years they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again.

That brings us back to Elijah. He is hell bent in hoping that he can find the Katherine he first met in the Katherine that we’ve come to know. Yes, again. Well, we eventually see that Katherine is truly in love with Elijah and puts her trust in him. So, she gives him the cure.

Back to Stefan’s comment about repeating the same pattern… So, Klaus is in agony over the white oak in his back and he turns to the one person that he thinks can help him and that is Caroline. They go back and forth about the Tyler mess and how to become friends and that is when he realizes he is no longer in pain. It was all a Jedi mind trick by Silas. There was never any white oak piece in his back. He thanked Caroline for getting his mind off of the pain. She requested that he allow Tyler to come back and he said that he wasn’t really scouring the earth for Tyler. This means that Katherine should not be worried about Klaus because he has bigger fish to fry.

Yes, I know… what about Elena? Well, after disguising herself to be Katherine and meeting up with Elijah  and then meeting up Stefan and Damon at the diner, she gave her final ultimatum… forget about giving her the cure or the country will be covered in bodies.

Now, we have to see what Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah will do with the cure and how much of a berserker Elena will turn into?

Fun time in Mystic Falls…

This show will also return on April 21st with a new episode.

Overall, all were quite entertaining, but Supernatural won the week!

TV Time: Recaps of Your Favorite Sci-fi Shows for November 8-12, 2012 – Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, Firefly, Fringe, Grimm, Haven, Once Upon a Time, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, The Vampire Diaries

Monday, November 12th, 2012

It’s that time again my lovelies… Top ten deets from your favorite sci-fi shows:

10.  Defying the laws of logic and proving that each show has an audience, Beauty and the Beast got a full season pick-up. Congrats! In the latest episode to air, Saturn Returns, Cat once again comes to the rescue of Vincent when he stops a robbery in progress and almost loses his anonymity. Yet, this was not the main crux of the episode. This episode was all about Vincent, J.T., Evan and Cat moving on from the current point in their lives, especially in the romance department. Evan courts the woman that all women envy, but his heart still lies with Cat and he gave her a kiss to prove it. Evan asked a co-worker out and Vincent finally gets the date he has been pining for. Unfortunately, for Vincent, his genetically mutated body prohibits him from getting to first base. Will these two ever make it? Only time will tell.

9. I have come to the realization that no one in The Vampire Diaries will have a happily ever after. In the Killer, Stefan and Klaus once again join forces to rescue Jeremy, Matt, and April from Connor, who has taken them hostage at the Mystic Grill. The violence escalates when Klaus sends in one of his hybrids, Dean, to face Connor. The reason Klaus and Stefan were not only protecting the kids and also protecting Connor was that Connor’s tattoo is a map to a cure for Vampirism. However, being so enraged with everything happening around her… Elena kills Connor. Now, she has to contend with the insanity that is brought on by killing a hunter. We also saw the beginning of Jeremy’s career as a hunter, which was spurred on by the hunter’s tattoo showing up on his hand. Caroline is surprised when she sees Hayley at the Lockwood’s house and then confronts a perplexed Tyler about it and we also see Professor Shane successfully help Bonnie move past her fear and guilt about practicing witchcraft, remember… Shane is part of this Hunter mess.

I cannot wait to see Katherine back…

8. There is no end in sight in the horrific tale of Captain Renard and Juliette on Grimm. In To Protect and Serve Man, we see Monroe see what we’ve been seeing and all we could do was wonder what can he do? This is going to painful. While this was happening, Nick and Hank revisit one of Hank’s old cases and rescue a man from being executed when they realize that the case involved Wendigos.

I cannot wait to see Nick’s reaction to Juliette telling him that she has it bad for his boss. Remember, this is the fall season finale. So, do not miss it!!!!

7. Sorrow can make men fall apart, rebuild them and give them a new purpose or become a shadow of what they once were. In the latest Fringe, Through the Looking Glass and What Walter Found There, Peter is all of the above. As he and the rest of the team investigate a pocket reality in order to find the next piece for their plan to rid the Observers, we see Peter continue to evolve into a human/Observer hybrid and it is frightening.

Will Olivia stand by or stop him from disappearing completely into his sorrow and feeling of wanting revenge for what happened to Etta.

6. The more and more we learn and those around Ollie learn about his time on the island… the more and more tragic he becomes. Yet, as Arrow, you can totally understand why he is the way he is and why he keeps his shield up so much. So, with the help of Laurel and Digg, Ollie was not charged for being the masked crusader that haunts the shadows of Starling City.

What was unfortunate of the episode was when Ollie’s stepfather found out the truth and the extent of Ollie’s mom’s secrets. What will she do without him in her corner???

5. Congratulations to Haven for getting a 4th season, much deserved! In the second part of Magic Hour, Audrey and Duke find out the truth about who shot Nathan and with the help of Jordan, they find a way to save Nathan. However, they do not get any closer to the Colorado Kid mystery.

One of the interesting bits revolved around Nathan being between a rock (Audrey) and a hard place (Jordan).

4. Garth needs to become a series regular on Supernatural. This season is so dark and sometimes we need some kind of levity to help us want to watch. This is what the latest episode, Southern Comfort, we see Garth, as the new Bobby, help the boys on a case that involves the locals in a town offing one another over past indiscretions. The culprit is an Indian head penny, which was owned by a civil war soldier. This penny also brings the issues the brothers Winchesters have been having come to a head. Happily and warily, they agree to let go of the past and to move on… keep your fingers crossed that this truce sticks.

3. I want the casting director’s job on Once Upon a Time. They pick the most beautiful almost and full-fledged boys on TV. The latest was named Quinn and he was a were that was on the hunt for Ruby in a flashback sequence, in the episode titled Child of the Moon, that showed us how Ruby learned to control her inner wolf, which is something she is not sure she can do now. King George uses this information to try to steal David’s power as town Sherriff, by killing the local mechanic (was actually one of Cinderella’s mice) and framing Ruby for the murder. The truth comes out and all is well in Storybrooke.

One of the nicest moments is when Gold helped Henry out with his nightmares and did not ask for anything in return.

The big question revolves around Henry, who can communicate with those in magic land… will this be a way of rescuing Emma and Snow?

2. We have a name, of sorts, for Lori and Rick’s baby girl on the Walking Dead’s Say the Word and that is little ass-kicker. That was given to her by her uncle Daryl, awwwwww. The rest of the episode had me on the edge of my seat. From watching Rick taking out his frustrations and anger on the remaining Zombies in the prison, to the Governor protecting his zombified daughter, the zombie gladiator-like games that horrified not only Andrea, but the viewers and seeing Michonne hell bent on getting the hell out of dodge. I fear for Andrea, because that compound only looks safe. I also fear for our little band of survivors because they have a leader that has lost his marbles.

Big question… is Carol dead???

1. Firefly: 10th Anniversary – Browncoats Reunite. I have to admit something… I was never really a huge sci-fi until Firefly popped up on FOX. I watched Buffy, but I was never someone that memorized each and every episode, nor was I the kind of person who felt a kinship with or wanted to be a character on a show… technically, I am still that person. But, Firefly was and is different. Here is a little show that should have gotten a chance to see a season 10, but because the executives of FOX did not see an immediate response from the viewers, they just kicked it to the curb. I used to sit on the couch with my husband on Friday nights and we would watch and fan-out on every imaginative twist and turn of this show. I was happy that we got a movie and thrilled that we got a 10 year reunion special. This is a show that has evolved from a little sci-fi show to becoming a movement. Browncoats forever… xoxo, ~M.

Remember, you can follow my commentary on these and other shows, i.e. Doctor Who, Teen Wolf, True Blood, Game of Thrones, Lost Girl, Being Human, BBC America’s Being Human and the Misfits on Get Glue and on Twitter.

Grimm – The Other Side

Blurb: Nick and Hank investigate a murdered high school student who was killed because their involvement in an academic decathalon. Meanwhile, Monroe gets a visitor at the spice shop and Renard must deal with an ex-girlfriend.

Things always go awry when you see two characters that are not meant to be lock eyes from across the room and that is the case for the Captain and Juliette. She looks away and tries to keep that momentary lapse into weirdness squared away in the deep dark recesses of her brain and he decides to follow her, break into her and Nick’s apartment and shatters a picture of the happy couple.

Yes, things are turning down a dark path… especially after Monroe informs the Captain that if the affliction is left untreated things may become deadly. Yea… this storyline gets better and better.

This of course is not the only problem on the Captain’s plate. The hexenbeast has reached out to his half-brother to get info on the Captain and as long as the brother is getting some nookie than she will get everything she wants.

Back in Portland, Nick and Hank contend with a case that involves the deaths of teenagers whom are all a part of an academic team. Then they come across a teen and his mother who are genio innocuo (a turtle like creature that is quite docile). Of course, the mom has made matters worse by genetically changing her son so that he is a hybrid… which she thought would give him a leg up over everyone else. Unfortunately, it just made him killer. You can tell that having Hank be a part of this Grimm team is perfect for two reasons: 1. He is a cop and can assist Nick on the cases that deal with these otherworldly creatures and 2. He knows restraint, where Nick does not.

All in all this was a really great episode and I cannot wait to see what happens next to the Captain and Juliette.

Haven – Double Jeopardy

Blurb: A female vigilante appears in Haven and starts attacking criminals–including Duke. Meanwhile, Audrey tries to get a lead on the bolt-gun killer and Nathan vows to do anything to infiltrate the Guard.

In hindsight, I have to wonder what the writers were thinking character-wise. Where, in the past, these characters were friendly… this season Hank and Duke are always at odds and it makes you wonder if it is really just because of them both caring for Audrey or if something else is going on?

While we are on the topic of the gents… Nathan is hell bent on infiltrating the mysterious group of The Guard. His way in is a troubled named Jordan, but he is using the fact that he cannot feel a thing to make her feel like they could possibly be destines for one another (she can only inflict pain with her hands). Please remember that he is also having issues with Audrey because of her relationship with Duke.

This is allowing Duke to get more time in with Audrey. In this episode, Duke is once again before a Judge. Unfortunately for him, whoever ended up in this courtroom ends up suffering for whatever crime he or she committed. This forces Audrey to protect Duke and they end up having some of the best scenes this season so far…

The bolt killer case was still running in the background as Audrey confronted the person who was punishing everyone… which ended up having a really interesting twist at the end.

This episode was one of the best this season because of Duke and Audrey; hopefully we will see more of this pairing.

Once Upon a Time – The Crocodile

Blurb: While the dwarves try to find fairy dust in the Storybrooke mines, Belle gives Gold an ultimatum. Meanwhile, in the fairytale world Rumplestiltskin goes after a band of pirates that have abducted his beloved.

Finding out more and more about Rumple’s past is one of the highlights of this episode. Yes, yes… it does not come to us easily. No, he has to have issues, once again, with Belle. This is a girl that is a hopeless romantic and honestly thinks she can save this eternally damaged soul. Happily, after learning about what happened to Mila (Rumple’s wife) and why he falls back on Magic so much… you just have to cheer this couple on.

Mind you, this is the episode where we got to meet Captain Hook a.k.a. Killian Jones. What black eyeliner and eye shadow can do for a man is amazing. I was having flashbacks of when Adam Ant was popular. Captain hook has a vendetta against Rumple and do you want to bet who will be on the middle of all this mess…. That’s right. Belle.

One of the best scenes in the episode had to deal with the now emancipated Belle. She had shaken her chains off from both Rumple and her father (who had kidnapped her to free her from Gold) and is ready to start life anew. Rumple, knowing how he continuously lets her down, gives her the one thing he knows will make her happy and that is the keys to the library.

Let’s roots for Gold/Rumple!!!!

The Walking Dead – Sick

Blurb: As Herschel’s life hangs in the balance, Rick and the others have to deal with the realization that they are not the only living people in the prison.

We are seeing a new side to Rick and it was most evident in tonight’s episode. This is a man who is determined to keep this small group alive and he will do anything he can to make that happen. Last week, he chopped off the leg of Hershel after he was bitten. This week he comes across a group of prisoners that have survived for almost a year in the pantry of the prison.

In order for him to keep his group alive, Rick makes a deal with the prisoners to help them clear out a cell block in exchange for food. While he, Daryl and T-Dog help the prisoners, they know that there is one bad egg in the group. So, after almost becoming Zombie meat by the hand of the evil prisoner, Rick axes him. He also forces one scared prisoner to fend for himself against a slew of zombies… There is just nothing in this man that reminds us of Rick from season 1.

While this was happening, Lori and Carol are left to car for Hershel and luckily they save him, but Carol feared for the worst and went off to practice on a female zombie… just in case Lori turned in to a Zombie during childbirth… I think I left the room at that point.

The interesting bits of the episodes involved the younger male characters, Glenn and Carl have grown so much and watching them take risks and take on greater responsibilities is one of the highlights of this show. Of course, they face conflicts between what they want to do and what is expected of them, but isn’t that part of growing up.

Honestly, this show just gets better and better.

Syfy’s Being Human and Lost Girl

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Love, loyalty and despair has led the trio of Syfy’s Being Human down paths that they all regret having gone down.

The Reaper trains and mentally torments Sally and we come to find out the truth. Sally has split personality disorder and she indeed is the reaper… which is probably the biggest shocker that the show has ever had.  Josh and Julia find themselves making eyes at each other around the hospital and due to a visit from his ghostly pal Stu, Josh without knowing beds Julia and finds himself in a situation where he has to either stay in her life or completely cut himself off, the latter seems less likely. Aidan breaks the pact set by he and his fellow roommates by having Henry recouperate in their house and that means feeding him in their house. This heightens the tension between the two and we are left wondering when will the dam break for this trio.

In Lost Girl, it is Fae Day or as the Fae call it, La Shoshain, the holiest of Fae holidays, when all Fae, Light and Dark, put aside their animosities and celebrate together to commemorate the legendary Blood King. No violence may be used todaon this day, and Fae of warring clans not only lay down their arms, but may lay down together. So everyone is at Trick’s bar where it is bustling with jubilation when the harp player stops suddenly and lets out an unearthly wail. That’s right, she is a Banshee and when a Banshee wails, that means someone will die. So, Bo with help from Dyson tracks down the Banshee and they come to find out out who will die. They aid Sean, the one that is marked for death, try to make amends with his brother and try to stop  him from dying. Yet, when fate has dealt it’s hand there is nothing to stop it from happening. Unfortunately for Kenzi, she falls quickly for Sean and tries to help the guy cross off items from his bucket list and when he dies, after saving his brother’s life, her heart breaks.

One of the nice things about this episode was that Dyson and Bo have kind of started going back to their normal selves. These two will always be in each others lives, for better or worse. Also, it was nice to see Kenzi have a serious moment and heartbreeaking moment at the end of the episode. Yet, there is one question I have. Is Trick the Blood King? Is that why Dyson takes heed to his remarks? Mmmmmm?

What did you think of the episodes?

The tragedy of the “curse” on Once Upon a Time continues…

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

It just seems like David and Mary-Margaret are destined to never be. Even in the FT storyline, they do not get to have a “Happily Ever After” or that is what we are lead to believe.

In the present day storyline, David has been released and Emma knows that he has been telling the truth about the whereabouts of his estranged wife, Katherine. But, Ruby finds a box and in it is a human heart. Flags get thrown in the air after the fingerprints found on the box are those of Mary-Margaret. Of course, we all know that Regina has an extensive collection of hearts and is capable of framing anyone. Now, we have to see poor MM get jailed under suspicion of murder and see how she gets herself out of this mess.

The question that is nagging at our minds, is why? Why go to such extremes to keep these two apart? Only time will tell.

We also got to see Ruby at the center of a major storyline in tonight’s episode. She gets into a bow row with her gran and then quits and moves out. Emma ends up seeing potential in Ruby and offers her a job. Ruby excels as a tracker and she relaizes that finding the macabre is not something she wants to do for the rest of her life. Can you blame her? In FT, we come to learn that Ruby is actually a Were. She finds out the truth after having her love for dinner. You just have to feel for this poor girl. What happens to Red in FT will be interesting to see.

All in all, this was one of their banner episodes. I feel that when the focus is on one of the ancillary character the story just opens up new doors of wonder for the viewers. Mind you, I would like to see the Huntsman again… if they bring him back, I will be a watcher for life.

The Walking Dead knows how to turn a show on it’s head

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

Did the guy next you tell you to breathe after seeing tonight’s Walking Dead? My husband did that to me once Shane became zombified and went after Rick. Words escaped me as Carl saved his father by shooting Shane in the head and thus ending the most tragic storylines ever written.

Shane’s story was a modern day retelling of a Greek tragedy. Here is a man who spent the better part of his life trying to do what was right and just when he thought he had reached his nirvana… everything he thought he had: the love of a good woman and a child that looked up to him were taken away when his friend came back from the dead and took back what was rightly his.

The moment Rick came back into the picture Shane started to spiral down a drain of despair. He tried to hold on for as long as could, but with the knowledge that the baby that Lori was carrying might be his and all the ill-conceived decisions made by Rick forced Shane to do the unthinkable in order to take back what he thought was rightly his. Of course, it ended in tragedy. In the last minutes of his life, you saw man wrought with angst and that there was no turning back for him. Death, two times over, was the most appropriate thing for this tragic figure.

So, as you know, the death of Shane was the worst kept secret in TV this year. From blind items to leaked descriptions of the DVD set… we knew for a while that Shane’s days on The Walking Dead were numbered. Yet, seeing him die, twice, still left an indelible mark on this show and on the fans.

Now, we’re wondering what will happen to this group? Will they stay together? Will Lori turn her back on Rick after finding out the particulars of Shane’s death? Will those Zombies reach the farm?

Well, I know what happens in the season finale and I have to admit that is a jaw-dropper of an episode and makes me cringe because I will have to wait 6 ½ months for season 3.

Btw, I think we all know what the secret that was whispered in Rick’s ear at the end of Season 1 is.

What do you think it is?
