In attendance: Kevin Williamson, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven R. McQueen, Zach Roerig and Michael Trevino and Julie Plec.
Kevin Williamson moderated the panel
Kevin asked Julie to tease the audience about season four – “Everything just feels so fresh – it feels new,” she explains. “Elena’s obviously going through a huge change and Damon and Stefan are going to have to deal with that. It’s a lot of really deep, emotional, twisted stuff.”
Nina talks Elena’s big change – “How do you make Elena the vampire different from Katherine?” she poses. “It’s going to be tricky – I think she’s going to be defined by her experiences. And Elena’s had some pretty crazy experiences!”
Kevin asks Ian about Damon’s journey: “These characters are wildly complex individuals. This metamorphosis of this guy is ultimately… in season two, he tried to be somebody that everybody wanted him to be, and bottom line is – he’s not a nice guy!”
And what about Stefan? “I always lean toward the dark side,” explains Paul. “When I got to play the Ripper, it was such a relief. The truth of Stefan is, he’s so twisted, dark and dangerous, that he covers it up with this sense of good-will.”
Zach states the following about his character: He says Matt may feel so guilty for Elena saving him and that he is searching for his “purpose” now – “Perhaps he might offer up his neck… arm… whatever part of him Elena wants to feed on!” He says Matt may feel so guilty for Elena saving him that he may offer himself to feed.
Steven joked about Jeremy and Bonnie’s relationship: “I betrayed her with a little necrophilia.
Kevin brings up the Delena / Stelena fan factions – “What’s great about what we’ve accomplished here is that we have people who care this much and have opinions that are that strong,” says Julie. “They really, really want it to go their way!”
Julie discusses the love triangles: “When I’m watching love triangles…”
“I like to be able to root for both of them.”
Nina joked about her characters love interests: “Between the two characters, I feel like I’ve made out with everyone in the cast!” she jokes. “But I think Katherine should hook up with Elijah.”
Fan Q&A
One fan wanted to know a secret fact about each of the cast from Julie. Zach Roerig hunts turkeys, Paul Wesley is “the funniest man [she's] ever met” and Ian has met so many people and done so many things, he’s “probably actually had a sit down with Jesus Christ”.
Nina was asked about the difficulty in keeping her character’s change at the end of the season: Was it tricky keeping Elena’s change a secret? “It was definitely tough – I wanted to tell the world!” Nina admits.
Ian joked that he had no idea about the transformation and that he only read his lines.
Nina only found out about Elena’s transformation “three or four episodes” before it happened. Also, interesting tidbit – the original plan was for the character to change back in season two!
The next fan asked about possible Alaric (Matt Davis) flashbacks. “He definitely has, contractually with his other show [Cult], permission to appear,” says Julie. “It’s possible and something all of us would like very much.”
Paul jokes that he wants Stefan to romance Elijah and that Vampire sex only lasts a second.

Which one do you like?
Stelena

or
Dalena?

I like Stelena, because his attention is focused on her… not the camera.
