Well, it seems like Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ star is on the rise, not only does this one time troubled actor have a show on NBC, but he is in talks to star in the 7th episode of the Star Wars saga which will be helmed by J.J. Abrams. Who the character is, no one knows.
Regarding J.J. Abrams, after the success of Star Trek Into Darkness it was not a surprise to hear that we will indeed have a third installment in the rebooted Star Trek franchise. We have heard Damon Lindelof toss around his thoughts on who will be the new bad guy in the new movie.
So, as we suspected, NBC is creating its own version of a supernatural night of programming. The magical night is the much maligned Friday night and they will couple Grimm with two limited series’.
At 9:00 pm they will air Grimm and at 10:00 pm they will air Dracula in the fall and Crossbones at the mid-season mark.
Dracula – Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers (“The Tudors”) stars in this provocative new drama as one of the world’s most iconic characters.
It’s the late 19th century, and the mysterious Dracula has arrived in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. He’s especially interested in the new technology of electricity, which promises to brighten the night – useful for someone who avoids the sun. But he has another reason for his travels: he hopes to take revenge on those who cursed him with immortality centuries earlier. Everything seems to be going according to plan… until he becomes infatuated with a woman who appears to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.
From the producers of the critically acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning hit “Downton Abbey” comes “Dracula,” a twisted, sophisticated and sexy take on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, proving that some stories never die. One-hour drama.
Crossbones – It’s 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, a.k.a. Blackbeard (John Malkovich), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Part shantytown and part marauder’s paradise, this is a place like no other on Earth – and a mounting threat to international commerce.
To gain control of this fearsome society, Tom Lowe, a highly skilled undercover assassin, is sent to the buccaneers’ haven to take down the brilliant and charismatic Blackbeard. But the closer Lowe gets, the more he finds that his quest is not so simple. Lowe can’t help but admire the political ideals of Blackbeard, whose thirst for knowledge knows no bounds – and no law. But Lowe is not the only danger to Blackbeard’s rule. He is a man with many villainous rivals and one great weakness – a passionately driven woman whom he cannot deny.
From the award-winning creator of “Luther,” Neil Cross, and award-winning executive producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (“Gladiator,” “Men in Black”) comes an extraordinary action adventure with an unexpected moral center where one can’t be sure whether the pirates or the British crown are the villains. One-hour drama.

Jessica De Gouw has been cast as Mina on the NBC show. You may recognize De Gouw who currently portrays The Huntress in CW’s Arrow.
In this version of Dracula, set in the 1890s, Mina is the only female studying to be a doctor at University College in London. She is described as “forward-thinking, clever and independent — more at home at a bohemian party than sipping tea in drawing room.” Dracula will be played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who is posing as an American businessman in bringing modern science to Victorian London. He is actually there for revenge on those who scorned him centuries ago, until he falls in love with Mina, whom he believes to be the reincarnation of his dead wife.
Dracula, which bypassed the tradition pilot stage and was picked up directly to a 10-episode series, is slated to debut in the fall.
As the year progresses we will update this section with new books that we think you will like.
