Let me just say that I liked this episode, but there were a couple of issues that I had with it. We’ll get to them in a bit.
This episode had 3 major plot points:
1. The Daleks are for all intense purposes, scaredy cats. They grab the Doctor, Amy and Rory from wherever they are and drag them to planet Dalek to do one thing and that is to destroy their equivalent of Australia, before it destroys Planet Dalek.
2. Amy and Rory hit a rough patch. At the beginning of the episode, we see that that Rory has brought divorce papers to Amy to sign. This was a shocker… but thanks to the Doctor’s brand of marital counseling and the fear of becoming Daleks, this couple realize that they are utterly besotted with one another and would die for one another. By the end of the episode they were happily back together. Hooray! Btw, Rory was a star in the episode. When he dealt with the Daleks by himself, kind of flirted with Oswin and told Amy how he felt… well you just had to fall for him.
3. Hello Ms. Oswin a.k.a. future companion for the Doctor. We meed a young lady that has crashed into the prison planet and for a year she has been making souffles and keeping the Daleks out of her little control room/living space. Over the course of a year she has figured out to hack the Dalek technology, which allows her to help “Chin Boy” a.k.a. the Doctor and “Nina” a.k.a. Rory. But, she was no fool… the only she was going to help them get off the dreaded Dalek Asylum is if she were to be rescued also. So, she tells the Doctor to come find her. And then we get blind-sided. Oswin is a… Dalek.
She has tricked her brain into thinking she was still a human in order to allow herself to survive. After the Doctor explains everything to her, she ends up fighting her Dalek tendencies and holding on to the last bits of her humanity she decided to save the Doctor and the rest of the gang. She also forces the Daleks to forget the Doctor leaving them behind asking one question and that is, “Doctor Who?”
This is when the flags get thrown in the air: The silence will fall when the question is asked.
The other big issue is that the new companion, who is named Clara, is portrayed by the same actress who portrayed Oswin. In pictures provided by the BBC:
these two characters are wearing the same ring. Does this mean that the Doctor goes back in time and meets Clara and allows her to live knowing that she will indeed eventually become a Dalek and erases her memory of him at the end or am I thinking too hard?
As the year progresses we will update this section with new books that we think you will like.

And thanks so much to Maria and Tamara from Last Bite. I did a podcast with them over the weekend which is now available to listen. Tamara and Maria asked some great questions – and did some great editing, because wow, can I ramble, but thankfully they managed to make me sound almost coherent .
