I’m underwhelmed after reading it.
She’s not into Eric anymore?! Wha…? Just like that? What the heck? So I guess when she takes the blood bond spell away both Eric and Sookie will be free emotionally of each other. That’s my theory anyway. And then she will likely go back to Bill. That would be boring.
Having sex with Eric and not enjoying it? Right….. that’s not physically possible is it? Not liking the direction this might go.
she did say she loved him.. and i guess she’s just in a bad moment? being tortured and all..
She’s depressed and trying to be strong for everyone else. I’m glad she admitts to loving Eric. I will have to stay very busy over the next few months to bide the time till I can read the rest.
I wasn’t impressed with the first chapter, it was a bit depressing. Sookie seems really unhappy with her life and with Eric
Totally disappointed she is still with Eric after all Bill went through to save her. With each book Sookie has become more shallow, over-sexed and insensitive. In my opinion, she and Eric total deserve each other. The only truly decent character in the series is Bill Compton who should have kicked Sookie to the curb a long time ago.
I think it’s kind of ominous that Bill is not even thought of in the first chapter. Even when she explains that she was rescued… she does not mention that it was Bill who risked his life for hers.

OMG I totally agree with you. One of the things that I loved about Sookie were her morals when she started out but now it seems that she focus too much on sex. I don’t understand what happened to Bill when I first started reading the Sookie books it seemed like it was going to be a love story between them but not anymore

I believe Sookie is becoming more like Eric each and everyday. I too agree she has become an insensitive and feel as though those close to her shouldn’t cross the line in regards to her relationships. When she crosses lines all the time.
I can only think it is because she has such a connection with Eric that she has picked up some these characteristics or maybe she is changing because of her involvement in the supernatural word.
I only can say is she has become one of those that I least favor because of the way her character is being presented in the books.
I hope to goodness she doesnt end up with Bill?! He cheated on her, lied to her (sent my the queen?!) and raped her in the trunk of a car… sorry but no- I hope she does NOT end up with Bill. First chapter underwhelmed me also- I’m going to have to get my happy ending from fanfiction.
I’m glad that sookie has finally said she loves Eric but i think that will change. She is determined to break that blood bond. She will probably get back with Bill and that would just suck because bill lied,cheated, and raped her. She’s really in a dark place right now.I just hope her and eric dont break up!!!! i’m excited to read the rest fo the book but i just hope i like the ending…

Get treal: 1. We don’t know for sure that Bill actually cheated on Sookie, CH has never explicity said so.
2. Don’t be surprised if it turns our that Eric had something to do with Lorena finding out where Bill was.
3. I just don’t get those who claim Bill raped Sookie. Rape is intentional vilent act against a woman. Nobody in their right mind could claim that what Bill did in the trunk of the car was in anyway ntentional. Starved, not allowed to sleep and nearly tortured to death to keep Lorena from learning Sookie’s name Bill was totally out of his mind and acted in an instinctual primal way to save his life. Any fampire including Eric would reacted the way any vampie would. As soon as he realized what he was doing, he stopped himself and he was appalled by what he had done. Tricking Sookie into a blood bond without her consent is the same thing as mental rape.
***SPOILERS***
Yeah everyone forgets the bond between a maker and their vampire. I don’t think Bill could refuse going to Lorena at all and then if I recall correctly he explained to Sookie that Lorena ordered him to leave Sookie otherwise she would kill her. OMG how selfish and horrible is Bill that he much rather Sookie think he is a liar and a cheat than bring danger to her (sarcasm).
Yet Eric is better for Sookie? Maybe its because the first glance that Sookie got into Eric’s mind she described as a dark pit of snakes, yeap sooooo much better thats what all women need a guy with thoughts so dark they scare the begesus out of you.
The women who think Eric is so hot and romantic deliberately overlook what an evil and violent creature he is. He loathes humans and thinks they are only good for blood and sex. These women also conveniently overlook the fact that if Bill had refused Sohpie Ann’s command to meet and seduce Sookie, she would have killed him. on the spot
If I remember my history correctly, Vikings were not nice guys; they raped, murdered, pillaged and took slaves. Eric was a violent man when alive. As a vampire, he still loves to kill and torture. Pam’s description of how casually he killed and turned her was chilling to me. He is a killer without a conscience.
Since he was a prince during feudal times, he is used to the fedual system of kings and quees used by vampires today; he understands that system well. In order to survive, it was common for local princes to have spies in the courts of their respective kings or queens. Eric likes to be in control and does not like surprises, so think it is a good bet that he had many spies in Sohpie Ann’s and now Felipe De Castro’s court. I am sure Eric knew about Hadley and Sookie even before Bill did. In fact, it is likely that he was in on the whole thing from beginning to end.
I guess these are all reasons why seeing Sookie with Eric is more exciting. It is always more appealing for a truly bad guy to be changed by love. Eric is innately selfish, violent and oversexxed, so falling in love with Sookie and acting out of his nature for her, as he did when was in a spell, was really fascinating. If he is able to do it again while knowing who he is at the same time will be all the more meaningful and fun to read. I was really disappointed by the first chapter because I wanted Eric and Sookie to be in a relationship, but I wanted the event to be a little more happy and exciting. I felt let down.
How can Sookie ever have a real relationship with Bill when it was started on a lie? Let’s set aside him cheating with Lorena, they had problems well before Eric. They broke in the fought and broke up in the very first book. At one when speaking to Sam she admitted to herself that she lover Bill, but was not “in love” with him. And while Bill may not have been in his right mind when he raped Sookie – he did. There would be no way to go back to being intimate after that. Understan and forgive to become friends, sure. But lovers – no.
Additionally, Sookie has done as much for Bill as he has done for her. Do we all remember what the Rattrays did to her for saving Bill? Or her being staked and beaten in Memphis saving bill- which by the way was after they broke up.
Eric isn’t perfect but he has been the only character besides maybe Sam that has always been there for Sookie. And a majority of the time there really is nothing in it for him.
By the way when you learned that someone is “enthralled” with someone else. That they have repeatedly lied to you about this person and their current involvement in your life. You are meeting them on a secretive basis and you have told others that you plan on leaving your current girlfriend to be with someone else and to make arrangements – sex or no sex that is cheating.
And the fact that everyone else but her knew -that humiliation- is just icing on the cake.
I know I am going on and on, but:
Do you remember how mad and disgusted Bill was when he smelled Eric on Sookie after the orgy? He kept repeating “you smell like Eric” that was after he heard her tell him that they were their for a reason – no sex. If Sookie has as much of Eric’s blood in her as we have read, what happens when Bill and Sookie have sex and she tastes of Eric?
It is in my opinion that Sookie needs to make it work with Eric and Bill would be a great partner for Amelia. He is the type of person that would get along with Cope (smart,educated and not after his $) Amelia is modern conservative which jives with Bills taste and personality wise they would get along.
Than Bill and Sookie be be like friends and happy for each other
Beezus is right. Women always want the bad guy to change out of love. Here is a thought why not just go with a good guy to begin with? If you have to change a man then maybe that man is not for you.
Women always want the bad guy and why? Because generally he is good looking and wanted by all the women. How exilarating it is to have the guy that all the girls want just pay attention to you only you. He could have any other girl but he chooses you. That is what I think attracts MOST (not all) women to Eric. They want to see a prideful man reduced to a puppy dog out of love.
I re-read the books and while reading book 4 it sadden me to think that what women fantasize about is a man basically forgetting who he is, almost brain washed so he can only worship you. Live only for you and be a slave that can’t function without you ordering him around. Because that is basically what Eric was reduced to in book 4. Remember him being scared to death and sitting by Sookies leg like a helpless dog that couldn’t do anything with out her. Sorry I want a man that thinks not a slave.
I love Eric fans that like Eric for who he truly is, hell I like Eric too, he is a very fun character that always brings excitment to the books. But he also has characteristics in him that I can’t forget. Remember how afraid Sookie was of him in the first books? How many times she realized that he didn’t care about anything else other than himself? Are we to assume that our heroin’s insticts suck? I hope not she seems to be a good judge of character with others.
My friend is an Eric fan that know he is tricky, she knows that there is something dangerous about him and she embraces it. She likes him for who he is. Sitting there and expecting him to become the opposite, a soft Eric in a long term relationship that plays house with Sookie is the opposite of him.
I am dissapointed because she is so un-happy… I hope she stays with Eric… if she goes back to Bill which typically thats whats going to happen that will just ruin things for me! I really hope she stays with Eric or a half something not Bill.
I have to say that agree with everything about sookie become more hard-hearted because she has been and seen so many murder since she got with bill and eric but I also think she is very confused about any of her feelings. Bill may have done so much to save her life but don’t forget that she risked her life to save his life from the women he was going to leave her for. I think that sookie will most liking end up with bill and I hope she does because eric is not the man for her because sookie fell right into love with bill and with eric she is very uncertain

I also have to say that I do feel that the first chapter was sort of a downer because sookie is drepressed and beaten and not her usual loving,kind,and energetic self. But I hate that the people leaving comments about how sookie is shallow and a sex addict because they have to remember that sookie through the whole Novels has been beaten,stacked,raped,tortured,and betrayed by more than one person she cared about. So I believe she has every right to be the way she is, plus she has been trough a lot in her life with losing her parents,hadley,and her grandmother who were all murdered. She has to deal with people thinking she is crazy and not all in her head because she has to deal with hearing what they are thinking and the fact that her brother is barley there for her. I feel sookie is a strong southern women who deserve the readers love and loyalty and not for bill or eric.
I have to say that I feel bill is the wisest choice for sookie not eric.
Let’s not forget how many times Eric has saved Sookie too. He is always there for her. Who cares what she initially thought of Eric, first impressions are very often wrong. Bill is SO unappealing as anything but a friend!
I hope sookie gets back with Bill. I know Bill made mistakes but he has tried again and again to win back sookie. and if sookie didn’t get with Bill then Sam would be my next choice
