Doctor Who: Recap of a Town Called Mercy and Promo of Power of Three
Synopsis: When the Doctor, Amy, and Rory travel to the Old West, the Doctor finds himself chosen as marshal to deal with a ruthless gunslinging cyborg.
One of the bits about the last few episodes and this episode in particular is that you are seeing a clear division forming: There is Amy and Rory and then there is the Doctor. In the past two seasons, we saw the Ponds leaping into the fray in order to be a part of the excitement and to learn how deeply involved their family is with the Doctor’s life (via River Song). Now that the Ponds have settled down and created some semblance of a normal life in London the life that the doctor leads seems more and more less desirable.

When they drop in on a town named Mercy, during the Wild West era, they come across a town that is not only being taken care of by a humanoid alien, but it is also being terrorized by a cyborg. The cyborg in question is only trying to avenge what was done to him and is trying to not harm the innocents of the town.
Once the Doctor learns of the alien’s past, he is willing to overlook all the good that the doctor had done in his time in Mercy in order to allow the cyborg to exact his revenge. This is one of the more and more frequent moments where we see the Doctor becoming less and less tolerable with the actions of individuals around him. It seems the only person that can reach him is Amelia.

I have to admit, it took me a second to remember that the Doctor is also a war criminal and that is why he went through the stages of anger, guilt and somberness. After this, he comes up with a plan that not only saves the humanoid, but the town of Mercy. Yet, the alien realizes that he can no longer run from his past and he knows that he can no longer risk the lives of others for the crimes he committed in the past. So, he sacrificed himself and in doing so, the cyborg goes off in the distance to self-destruct. Not so fast, now that the town no longer has a Marshal, the Doctor convinces him to take on the task of being the protector of Mercy.

In the next episode of Doctor Who – Power of Three: The Doctor moves in with the Ponds while investigating millions of small black cubes that have invaded Earth but seem harmless.
