The Cast and Julie Plec of The Vampire Diaries talk about the crazy twist in tonight’s episode…
It’s true. I have become one of those fans that can almost predict what happens in episodes, but not tonight. The Vampire Diaries was full of shockers, but there was one that blew everyone away and that is… Alaric is the feared serial kills of Mystic Falls. Yes, when things started clicking in my head about distant relatives, the ring and the repercussions of those who wear that ring, I became that crazy fan who was screaming “Andale Elena! Get your a@# downstairs!” What does this mean? Who knows?!?!?!?
Let me digress, E! spoke to the cast and Julie Plec about this episode (which was previewed at Paleyfest).
Julie Plec discussed the storyline:
“There’s a big journey for Alaric,” Plec said. “[It's] a big journey for Elena. Stefan and everybody are going to be at the center of this storyline.”
She continued, ”There’s something really beautiful about this ring being responsible for a darkness to take hold. He tried to walk out the [Gilbert] house in the first episode of the season and in the second episode. He tried to refuse the ring, but Elena asked him to take it back to be part of her family. Now there’s consequence to that.”
Paul Wesley stated the following:
“It’s a Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde thing and it’s so desperately what that character needed. He was becoming the typical guardian. They took a character that was so safe and stable and relatively predictable and gave him this incredible twist.” He added, “I thought that was one of the coolest ideas they had all year.”
Matt Davis, a.k.a. Alaric, remarked that, “It’s a beautiful experience to watch unfold,” he said. “I love seeing the evolution of the character…I love that we’re at the tipping point of the consequence of all that.”
Happily, unlike Jon Bernthal of The Walking Dead, the recent announcement of Matt Davis’ joining the pilot for another CW show does not indicated the demise of the beloved character. Matt Davis told fans, “The CW has been gracious enough to allow me the opportunity to play two amazing characters simultaneously on their network….assuming Cult gets picked up.”
Remember, there is another ring bearer and that is Jeremy Gilbert and that is what really has us wondering. What is he up to in Colorado? Will Elena drag him back to Mystic Falls before the rings casts it’s demented little spell on him… forcing Elena to lose her brother again? Who know, but it will keep me and I’m guessing you… watching.
What did you think of the episode which puts all those party-themed episodes to shame?
