Movies: Cowboys vs. Aliens
When word came out that the popular graphic novel, Cowboys vs. Aliens, would be turned into a movie… everyone cheered.
How could you go wrong? Jon Favreau is the director, James Bond a.k.a. Daniel Craig as the lead, Indiana Jones a.k.a. Harrison Ford is in it and the lady that everyone wants now, Olivia Wilde, is waltzing around naked in it. There are even cowboys and Indians and to top it all off there are aliens. I mean, really, who wouldn’t think that this would be a bonafide hit.
That’s why I went to see it and guess what? I did not like it. If it was strictly a western, I would have loved it. I loved the premise of a stranger who has lost memory strolling into an old mining town that was on the verge of becoming a ghost town and as the story we learn more and more about because he ends up finds outing that the law is after him for the death of his beloved, criminals are after him because he stole their gold and the only person that really knows who he is, is a woman. It would be a great western vehicle for Christopher Nolan, no?
Once the aliens entered the picture, I basically checked out.
There were some moments in the movie; Seeing Harrison Ford’s character mourn the death of the Indian that he rescued as a child and had grown to think of him as a son, Daniel Craig’s character was the epitome of cool. From taking out a group of bandits to taking down aliens, he just never flinched. By the way, he has an amazing ass. Finally, my favorite scene in the movie has to be as the end, when Daniel’s character moved on with his life and left the now prosperous town.
For those of you who have A.D.D., this is not the movie for you. Is it paced very slowly and I suggest you wait until it pops up on Netflix, Blockbuster or On Demand.
Overall, I give this movie 4 out 5 stars for the western storyline and 0 out of 5 starts for the alien storyline.
