SBLC: What’s Sookie gonna get into in Deadlocked?

Friday, April 27th, 2012

By Kelly H.

I know we’re all on pins and needles waiting until Tuesday’s release of the penultimate Sookie Stackhouse novel, Deadlocked, by Charlaine Harris.

I, personally, can’t wait to see what craziness our Sookie gets herself into in this installment; and of course, I’m very excited to see what happens on with everyone’s favorite Viking, seeing as how he’s been unwillingly betrothed to the Queen of Oklahoma!

Luckily, for those of you that have been wondering those same things, Ms. Harris dropped a few hints!

When asked what Sookie gets into in the novel, the tome’s author Charlaine Harris told NBC Miami, “Oh, a few kidnappings, a murder investigation, some love making, and some terrible and wonderful situations.”

So, it’s vague, but we now know to expect all kinds of trouble for our favorite heroine and hopefully a little lovin’ between her and Eric.

Comment below and tell us what you want to see happen in Deadlocked.

What to Watch: Syfy’s Treasure Island

Friday, April 27th, 2012

By Maria G.

Eddie Izzard, Robert Halmi and Thomas Vitale headed the call. We learned quite a bit about the filming of the movie. But, what really piqued my interest of what Eddie Izzard calls, “The Godfather of Pirate Movies,” is the passion that Eddie Izzard, Mr. Vitale and Mr. Halmi had for the project.

If you have not read the classic tale by Robert Louis Stevenson, it is about a young Jim Hawkins who attends to a dying patron of his family’s boarding house and he has no idea that the man was once a pirate, or that the man’s possessions include a map that will lead whoever has it to the island where the notorious buccaneer, Captain Flint, buried his treasure. Jim and his guardians hire a boat to sail to the island, unaware that crew they have hired includes many members of Flint’s pirate band, among them former quartermaster Long John Silver, and that they hope to claim the treasure for their own.

Unlike recent Pirate movies, this version of Treasure Island is much more realistic, grittier and action-packed. What’s at stake is a treasure worth $500,000,000.00 and everyone is willing to do whatever it takes to get that money. Also, the cast and crew actually filmed in both Puerto Rico and Dublin and the boat that was used in the filming actually sailed across the ocean to continue filming in a realistic manner.

Mr. Izzard, a self-professed fan of the future a.k.a. sci-fi, based his portrayal of Long John Silver on Winston Churchill who had this particular trait of refusing to give in and feels that he deserves his just desserts for all his hard work. He continued to state that the focus of the movie is the fight for Jim’s soul and that there is a clever twist with the treasure that will appeal to everyone.

Mr. Halmi, who was asked by Britain’s Sky TV to produce the movie, explained that, “Television has taken the books out of the hands of the young today.” These classics are retold in a modern way so that audiences can both understand them and enjoy them. He went on to say that after the airing of Syfy’s Gulliver’s Travels, he was told that more books were sold of Gulliver’s Travels than five years prior in total. Mr. Halmi later on hinted that he would be working on three more projects with Syfy that will sustain him for quite a while.

Now, as you may or may not know, Treasure Island has already aired in Britain and there is interest in making a sequel. Mr. Izzard stated that at the end of the first part, “Only four of us are left alive at the end of this film,” Regarding the future of Jim and Long John, “They’re buddies, they’re foes, they’re like mentor and student or father and son. Long John loves Jim but is also prepared to kill him. I think they have big adventures ahead.”

Treasure Island is set to air in a special one night movie event on Saturday, May 5th from 7pm to 11 pm on Syfy.
