Joe Manganiello Compares Alcide To A Classic Children’s Toy

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

MTV – If you thought Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) already had an overabundance of supernatural suitors in the form of Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) and Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), you should prepare yourself now for the addition of one more possible love interest. “One Tree Hill” actor Joe Manganiello joins the cast of “True Blood” this year as Alcide Herveaux, a werewolf sent by Eric to protect Sookie as she embarks on her quest to locate and rescue Vampire Bill, abducted by unknown forces at the end of season two.

“He’s kind of a moral compass on the show,” Joe said of Alcide in an exclusive interview with Hollywood Crush. “He’s big, he’s strong and he’s protective. He’s a good person.”

According to Joe, Alcide also has a lot in common with a slinky. Not sure what that means? Click past the jump and we’ll tell you what the actor had to say!

“I describe him as a slinky,” Joe said as he began using an unexpected metaphor to describe his character. “It’s this coiled piece of metal that when it’s coiled a certain way, it can walk downstairs and do these amazing things. But if you were to try and straighten that slinky out, it would cease to be special. That’s kind of how I see Alcide in a way — he’s this amazing creature trying to live within the confines of human society. It’s a lonely existence.”

As “True Blood” progresses through the third season, Alcide uncoils and escorts Sookie through “an underground society of werewolves” in order to alleviate a debt he owes to Eric Northman. Viewers will soon recognize that there’s an attraction between Alcide and Sookie, but the telepath isn’t the only character in this pair with some additional romantic baggage.

“Alcide has a psycho ex-fiancée named Debbie Pelt who’s floating around causing him trouble,” said Joe. “She’s crazy. She’s psychotic. She’s twisted. It’s a fascinating dynamic between her and Alcide. She’s a character on the edge and Alcide’s caught in that spot between letting her go and trying to save her.”

TVGuide Q&A: Give me a good tease about True Blood’s new season. — Holly

MICKEY: Zeljko Ivanek (aka the best guest star of everything) returns as the Magister, and he’s cracking down on the illegal V trade in Louisiana. This is a problem for the Queen, since she’s tacitly allowing it, and for Eric and Pam, since they’re running it.

What do you guys think?

Help End Violence Against Women by Voting for Alexander Skarsgard

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010
The Pixel Project (http://www.thepixelproject.net) – is a nonprofit organization working to end violence against women worldwide.

Their fundraiser is to raise $1 million to aid the USA’s National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Malaysia’s Women’s Aid Organization. We aim to do this via an online Pixel Reveal fundraiser in which a 1-million pixel mystery collage of 4 to 6 globally known Celebrity Male Role Models will be unveiled online as donors “buy” each pixel for US$1.00.

The Pixel Project chooses to focus on positive male role models from different walks of life is to demonstrate that men have a major role to play in breaking the cycle of violence against women. We want to show that men can lead by example and build successful lives without violence.

As part of efforts to recruit Celebrity Male Role Models for the mystery collage, The Pixel Project has launched our first Voters’ Choice Celebrity Male Role Model campaign through which a worldwide audience votes for an actor to join our A-list line-up which includes a Nobel Prize Winner and a Pulitzer Prize winner.

Alexander Skarsgard is one of the 5 nominees and and currently in the lead.
Voting is open from 17 May 2010 – 17 June 2010 and they need the help the fans of True Blood and Southern Vampire Mysteries to key in their vote and sign the online petition here:http://bit.ly/PixelVote

The two nominees with the most votes will be sent the polling results and the signed petition to invite them to donate JUST 45 MINUTES of their time to have their picture taken for the collage and to join the global community in saying “It’s time to stop Violence Against Women. Together.”

The superstar nominee who accepts the invitation will be revealed through the Pixel Reveal fundraiser which is currently scheduled to be launched in October 2010.

Alex is currently leading in the polls and the petition signature numbers and Team Alex hopes to keep him there right until the campaign’s closing date of 17 June 2010!
