More True Blood Spoilers…

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

(Ausiello/Entertainment Weekly) Question: Any new spoilers for season 3 of True Blood? —Heather

Ausiello: Carrie Preston hints that “something very unexpected is going to happen with her character Arlene… [She] might just be nervous enough about the supernatural characters around her that she will try to do something about it. I think she is going to try to figure out a way to protect herself. She gets very upset. She doesn’t think vampires should be around children.”

Question: What’s Jason going to be up to on True Blood this season (aside from taking his short off, of course)? —Nick

Ausiello: “He finally discovers the long lost art of love,” reveals his portrayer, Ryan Kwanten. “Well, at least his version of. It gets him into more trouble that he expected. He’s also dealing with the fact that he committed a small crime in that he killed [Eggs].” What’s been his biggest acting challenge so far this season? “I start the season in bed with two girls,” he says. “Not that I couldn’t do it, but a challenge? Sure.”

The Latest on Season 3

(E!) Kelly in New Madrid, Mo.: I can’t wait for more True Blood! What can we expect from season three this summer?
Oh, where to begin? Let’s start with the gorgeous Ryan Kwanten, who has some major storylines this season. First, Ryan says, “Jason finally falls in what he thinks is love. It’s a pretty rare, unknown concept for him.” Awww…Plus, Ryan tells us of Jason’s future, “The fact that my character is dealing with the fact that he really has killed someone now is pretty crazy, and there’s a whole host of new characters. There’s the addition of werewolves coming in. We’re using real wolves. It’s crazy. I’ve yet to work with them. I’ll work with them later on in the season, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Alicia in La Cañada Flintridge, Calif.: I need True Blood scoop!
True Blood’s Rutina Wesley tells us of Tara in season three, “She’s going to have to grieve a lot to get over [Eggs]. And then it’s going to be crazy madness.” As for Tara’s ex-lovah Sam, Nelsan Ellis teases, “Sam moves away from Sookie and Bon Temps, and he clings to the family that he’s now starting to get to know. He finds his mother, father and brother.” Come back home, Sam!

Azul in Orlando: Gimme some Eric Northman scoop! I miss my favorite Scandanavian True Blood vampire.
Did you see Nelsan’s dish that he’s going to be “Eric’s henchman” this year? Nelsan also reassures us that we’ll be getting a lot of Eric and Pam tag-team action this year as well: “Eric will definitely be in every episode, and Pam is definitely in the first four.”

Don’t Panic, True Blood Fans: Jason Stackhouse’s Abs Will Run Free in Season Three

Monday, January 25th, 2010

(New York Magazine) We met Ryan Kwanten on the red carpet for last night’s PGA awards, where True Blood would lose to Mad Men for Best TV Drama Series. Well, if you can’t wrest the big awards from Mad Men, you might as well do what that suit-and-tie-bound show can never do for your next season: Ramp up the male shirtlessness. As the dumb-yet-lovable Jason Stackhouse, Kwanten spent the majority of True Blood’s first season half-naked: The women he slept with kept getting killed, so he was constantly shot pre-, post-, or mid-coitus. But last year, Jason found God, and piousness always comes with a shirt. “Jason was relatively tame in terms of the skin exposure last season,” Kwanten told us. “Joining a religious cult will do that to you. But he is going to get back to his gallivanting ways in season three [which premieres in June] until he finds love. So I’ve had to spend some more time in the gym.”

Unlike professional athletes, who get to spend part of their off-season slacking off, Kwanten admits that maintaining Jason’s signature abs is a year-round job. “I don’t have time off to let myself go,” he said. “The number of people who will see me with my shirt off in HD on their giant flat-screen is incentive to stay in shape.” He doesn’t subsist on protein shakes alone, however: “I eat, believe me. They call them guilty pleasures but I hardly ever feel guilty enough to say, ‘no, honey.’ I am a dessert fiend. And I love being invited to awards shows and parties because they have the best dessert tables. Chocolate cake, ice cream, pie — you name it, I probably like it. I just go for a longer run the next day. I’m a masochist at heart.”

‘True Blood’s’ Kwanten to star in ‘Griff’

Monday, September 28th, 2009

By Patrick Frater- hollywoodreporter.com

Ryan Kwanten, star of HBO’s “True Blood,” will act the superhero in “Griff The Invisible,” a comedy romance by first-time Australian filmmaker Leon Ford.

Kwanten and Australian actress Maeve Dermody star as Griff and Melody, two ordinary people who need to save each other from their own eccentricities, while also saving the planet.

The film is produced by Nicole O’Donohue of Green Park Pictures and executive produced by leading Oz-based producers Jan Chapman and Scott Meek.

Transmission will release the picture in Australia and New Zealand, while international sales in other territories are handled by Hong Kong- and Amsterdam-based Fortissimo Films.

Production gets underway in Sydney next month in the hands of writer-director-actor Ford, a former TV director who has won awards for shorts “Katoomba” and “The Mechanicals.”

“Leon’s script is so fresh and different, it appealed to us immediately,” said Fortissimo’s Chris Paton.

Dermody can be seen in Rachel Ward’s “Beautiful Kate,” which is screening in Toronto this week.

The onscreen brother is always the last to know.

Speaking at the Entertainment Tonight/PEOPLE Emmy party after Sunday’s big event, Ryan Kwanten – the hottie who plays dumb-as-a-rock but well-meaning Bon Temps good ol’ boy Jason Stackhouse on HBO’s True Blood – said he may have been the only person not to have figured out that his costars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer were in a relationship.

“I’m always the last to know. My ear is not very close to the ground,” he said. “Stephen actually had to come up to me and tell me. He said, ‘Ryan I know you’re not really up with the gossip side of things. but before you hear from anyone else, we’ve been dating for the last 10 months.’ ”

But Kwanten, 32, said it made perfect sense once he did know.

“They just know who they are,” he said. “There are no facades or egos. They are just down-to-earth people.”

On the show, Kwanten’s character is the brother of Paquin’s character, one who often tries (and fails) to act as a caring older brother. Kwanten said feels like a friend more than a brother to Paquin in real life, but that he’s confident Moyer will make a fine husband.

“You look out for them and make sure that anyone who is the close circle has their best interest at heart, and Stephen does,” he said.

He’s even already got the perfect wedding gift picked out.

“I guess [I'd give them] privacy,” he said. “I’d just wave my magic wand.”
